Valentine’s Day Ideas – How to Celebrate Like an Elegant Woman

Looking for some fabulous Valentine’s Day ideas?  Well, as you know already, we do things a bit differently here at The Elegant Life:)

As Elegant women, we always check in with ourselves first.

And when we do this, we have a knowingness of what our soul desires and how it would like to ENJOY Valentines Day.

Now, I’ve always had a dilemma because j’adore themed holidays!  I think it’s the teacher in me:)  So, to go out for dinner and be served everything in heart shapes would thrill me to no end…the problem is, my husband doesn’t feel the same way.

He resists holidays like Valentine’s Day because he dislikes the commercialism of it.  He prefers to be loving and generous to me all year round (okay, and to not have to pay triple the amount for a meal and flowers).

This used to really hurt me.  And the hurt often turned to resentment….“You know I love it, so why can’t you just do it for me?”

However, as you realised from last week’s post on How to Elegantly Set Boundaries, we as Elegant women must know what we require and then decide what we will do if the other person does not give us what we need.

WE are responsible for our own happiness.

So, here’s what I decided to do, since he wouldn’t budge:

a) I became clear on what I actually LOVE about Valentines Day. You know me by now:) Yes, I love the fact that it’s all about LOVE.

b) I also love how you can easily have a themed evening around it.

c) I also love showing people how much I love them.

d) I love sharing the excitement of a holiday with my kids – they’re exactly like me:) YEAH!

So, for the past 5 years I have been creating a themed Valentines Day dinner, at home with my family, that I love so much.  Yep, heart shaped lights, heart shaped pizzas, heart shaped cakes and decorations, and a LOVE HUNT where my kiddies follow clues that are all based around ways we love each other.

And while I do this, my heart is filled with LOVE, my kiddies hearts are filled with LOVE and my hubby stares at me from a distance with a loving gaze and says, “I love you. The way you get excited about all this is so amazing, so YOU. How lucky our kids are to have you as their mummy.”

And all is well in my world on Valentine’s Day.

If I didn’t do this and my hubby surprised me with a dinner out one year (which I still would love to happen at least once, but there’s zero attachment to it) I would actually miss this little tradition I’ve created.

So, let me ask you a few questions:

If you had to plan your own personal Valentine’s Day,

  • What would you eat?
  • What would you do?
  • What kind of woman would you BE on this day?
  • What gift would you love to receive?

I invite you to create your own special evening, and if you choose to invite someone to share it with you, that’s YOUR choice.

If I didn’t have a partner and children, or for some reason if I was alone on this day I would:

  1. Buy some Processco and luxury dark chocolates for myself.
  2. Treat myself to a warm aromatherapy bubble bath.
  3. Go online and purchase myself something special from Charlotte Tilbury, NEOM, or Elemis.
  4. Spend a bit of time planning the next “Girls Getaway”  with my friends, Sandrine & Laura (this year it’s Italy!)
  5. Watch a movie that my soul desires to watch.

BLISS! Magnifique!

I would FULLY be able to enjoy this day because of the amount of Self-Love I have for myself.  I don’t need anyone to “make” me happy, I know how to do that all by myself. And with this energy emanating from me, who knows what I’ll experience or bring into my life?

I’d be curious to hear how you are celebrating (or not) this Valentine’s Day!  Are you like me and LOVE the whole theme of love hearts? Or do you prefer to cook a simple dinner for two and watch a movie together?  Or, do you go all out, with dinner, hotel and presents?

Please share it in the comments below!

Next week I’ll be sharing yet another way to increase your self-love, so I’ll see you back here soon!

Joyeuse Saint Valentin! xo

The 28 Day Self-Love Challenge! (*With Giveaway*)

The-8

Ladies! Are you up for a Beautiful Challenge?

About 2 weeks ago, the Divine told me that I was to focus on Self-Love in February.

Normally in February the world focuses on “relationship” love, but I know (and you know) that the only way to attract or experience the type of love you desire in your life is to be in complete & total love with your SELF.

Self-Love changes everything. How?

The Top 5 Benefits of Self-Love:

1. You don’t “need” anyone to make you happy.

2. You effortlessly become or maintain your ideal weight.

3. You attract friends and lovers who truly love you & bring you joy.

4. You attract & manifest what you desire with ease and elegance.

5. You are able to make a real impact as you serve your purpose on earth.

Of course there are many, many more benefits of self-love, but these are at the top!

Now, the word “self-love” has never really resonated with me.  I don’t know why but I felt no connection to it.  It didn’t stir up a desire for me to change or work on myself.

Can you relate?

I’d see a headline on the front cover of a magazine about Self-Love and either roll my eyes, thinking, “Not again” or “Boring!”.  The words just didn’t resonate with me.

But… what I realised is that I REALLY resonate with the word LOVE.

That one word feels FULL to me.  It feels warm and all encompassing.  I even love the way the word LOVE looks!

Most importantly though, I love the way love feels; when I give it and when I receive it.

By “give it” I also mean that I love the feeling when I “give love” to myself and fully “receive love” from myself.

Now THIS resonates with me. THIS has meaning for me and stirs up the desire to actually commit to doing it because I have felt the benefits and seen the benefits.

There are so many ways I have learned to give myself love.  Here are just a few that have strongly impacted my life…

5 Ways to Give Yourself Love

1. Have a “Red Velvet Rope Policy” for your life. Bless and let go of anyone or anything that makes you feel anything less than loved or joyful.

2. Gift yourself things or experiences that your soul desires.

3. Make yourself a priority.

4. Have a daily ritual that honours who you ARE, as well as the woman you desire to BE.

5. Gift your body high vibrational foods in order to honour her.

BONUS!

Every day tell yourself 1 thing that you LOVE about yourself.

Each week in February I am going to elaborate on one of the ideas above.  My intention is to share with you simple and pleasurable ways you can give LOVE to yourself so that you feel JOYFUL  & PEACEFUL inside, and that your outer reality aligns with these feelings and therefore attracts all good things that are a vibrational match.

The other thing I was divinely guided to do was to create a 28 Day Self-Love Challenge! I’m SO excited! J’adore GIFTING!!!

Here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. Head on over to either The Elegant Life’s Facebook Page OR Instagram Page  and “Follow” or “Like” the page.
  2. Each day in February, starting February 1st, return to the platform you choose to follow and watch for the post that looks like this:self-love challenge
  3. In the comment section post 1 thing you love about yourself or your life.
  4. If you comment on all 28 days your name will be entered into a luxurious giveaway! To acknowledge all the women who committed to cultivating self-love within themselves I will be adding their names to a draw and then gifting 1 woman from the draw a beautiful & highly luxurious gift that will be sent straight to her door!
Your name will ONLY be entered into the draw if you have “LIKED” or “FOLLOWED” one of the social media platforms listed above AND commented on all 28 days of the challenge. NO exceptions. A draw will be made on March 1st and the winner will be announced and contacted so that the giveaway prize can be promptly shipped. WOMEN ONLY.

ENJOY the process.  ENJOY the feeling. ENJOY the LOVE!

Because, as the French would say… L’amour, c’est magnifique!

How To Be Woman Who Lives Elegantly in 6 Simple Steps

Being a Woman Who Lives Elegantly would have been so foreign to me in my 30’s.  Sure, I had a lot of my stuff together.  I had a consistent spiritual practise that aligned me every day and I finally had my signature style figured out, but I only TRULY felt like a Woman Who Lives Elegantly after I turned 40 and experienced quite a tough year personally.

I had gone through a few rough years of moving countries, renovating a home with a newborn, moving again to another country after finally finishing our nightmare of a renovation, starting an online business, experiencing 2 miscarriages and then bad post natal depression.

During my depression, after I had my daughter, I looked back over the past years and thought, yes, well, it’s understandable that I am depressed! Look at everything I’ve had to go through!

But… when I took a good look at my life I realised that my soul felt empty and THAT was the reason I felt so depressed.  It was time for me to begin cultivating my life instead of just reacting to it.

How can YOU cultivate a BEAUTIFUL LIFE for yourself? Here are 6 Simple Steps!

Step 1

The first step to cultivating yourself as a Woman Who Lives Elegantly is to know what it is you want to cultivate.

Ask yourself,

“What are my values?”

What is MY definition of success in life?”

“What are my priorities?”

Once you know this you can start making conscious decisions around them.

Way back when, I realised that I was working way too many hours.  I lived in England, and because most of my online clients were in North America I was having all of my coaching calls during the evenings.  Once I honoured my value of FAMILY, I adjusted my working hours so that my clients had to be more flexible and meet with me during English daytime hours.

I also set an intention to get more clients in the UK. With more UK clients and with my overseas clients being more flexible, I was able to stop working at night all together. Pure elegant living:)

Step 2

Get to KNOW yourself.  Once you know who you are…intimately,  you can begin to appreciate and admit who you are.

When you admit and accept who you are, and those qualities serve your highest good, then you give yourself permission to be who you are, without hiding or dimming any part of you.

This is SO freeing!  I used to feel bad that I liked staying IN more than going OUT.  I also wondered if I was anti-social since I needed days of solitude in order to feel happy.  Yes, without my kids or hubby around, not to mention friends or clients. Was this NORMAL?

When I accepted this aspect of myself I realised that it greatly served me in connecting deeply with the Divine and doing my job well. I also consistently experienced inner peace and alignment…things most people were searching aimlessly for, AND my clients received DIVINE coaching from me.

So, what aspect (s) of yourself have you not accepted?  Start to LOVE and appreciate them as it was God, the Divine who made you this way!

Step 3

Turn inwards and ask your soul what it requires.

When I began asking my soul what it wanted for breakfast, I always felt satisfied and full of energy. When I asked myself, “How do you want to feel today?”, when getting dressed, I always felt beautiful…even if I was in jeans and a nice T-Shirt.

It’s SO important to begin connecting with your soul so that you don’t have to ask 20 people or an “expert” what you should do, eat or wear.

Begin to ask your soul questions like:

a) “Does this feel right to me?

b) “Does this person add to my life or take away from it?”

c) “Does this food make me feel good after eating it?”

Lead from THIS place. Gradually, elegantly, you will learn to trust yourself and really ENJOY the relationship you have with your beautiful soul.

Step 4

Cultivate LOVE.  Ask yourself how you can spread love towards yourself and others.  Can you give  yourself or someone a smile, a note, a thought, fresh flowers, an email, a text, a bath with epsom salts, a manicure?

A Woman Who Lives Elegantly GLOWS of love and light.  Why? Because she aligns with it everyday and makes a choice to gift it to herself and other people regularly.

Step 5

Elegantly nourish your Body.  I love food. I get excited by it and even read cookbooks in bed with glee! Eating well (mostly plant-based) gifts you clarity, energy, health, vitality and an elegant body without even “trying”. This is a Woman Who Lives Elegantly’s secret to looking and feeling beautiful.

Some of my favourite cookbooks are: Deliciously Ella Everyday, Livia’s Kitchen, Get the Glow

Step 6

Create pleasurable everyday rituals.  A Woman Who Lives Elegantly knows what she loves and what gives her pleasure, and creates small rituals for herself. Cooking to Jazz music is a favourite ritual of mine, as is applying luxurious creams like Elemis Frangipani Body Cream to my body after a shower.

Do you have a nightly bath?  A twice weekly mask? A monthly manicure? A gorgeous morning and evening daily ritual where you connect with your soul?

A Woman Who Lives Elegantly don’t just exist, she commits to cultivating herself and her life.

elegant woman

If you are too busy to enjoy a bath, a mask, a cup of tea or making love, you haven’t created a life, you are just existing.  Creating daily rituals helps you cultivate a luxurious, rich life now, today, and everyday, and Women Who Live Elegantly know this.

The Top 5 Life Lessons I Learned in France – The Elegant Life

Life Lessons (From France)

So, now you know why my year in France is a year that I will never forget and will always hold so dear to my heart.

In 1997 I left Canada a broken, insecure, unfulfilled person and in 1998 I returned a peaceful, confident, and spiritual woman.

It is my greatest honour to pass along some of the wisdom I gained. The life lessons I learned that year have served me every day since then.

I’ve had ups and I’ve had downs, but whenever I come back to these lessons, I feel peaceful, aligned, and confident in who I am and why I’m here.

Are you ready to learn them?

Okay!

Here are 5 of the Top Life Lessons I learned in France:

(Psst…for full explanations of the lessons, watch the video above)

  1. How to live a life filled with Peace, Pleasure, Prosperity, JOY and Beauty.
  2. How to connect with one’s own Divine Nature and how to allow that essence to be so fully YOU that you GLOW and touch other people’s lives with that glow. Shortly after returning from France I was walking in a Health Food Store and a woman stopped abruptly in front of me and said loudly, “WHOAH! YOU ARE GLOWING! You are actually GLOWING!” I just smile when I hear this now because I know it’s not me they’re seeing and feeling, it’s the Divine/Source Energy. This was a wish I had while living in France. I wanted to GLOW like the Buddhist Masters did. And, voila! With time and doing my special daily practise (the one you can find in The 6 Phase Visioning Meditation) I was able to fulfil my wish! And it just keeps getting stronger and stronger as I practise.
  3. How to LIVE your spirituality, not just talk or read about it.
  4. How to know and LOVE yourself intimately, so you never compare yourself with others again.
  5. How to know what your soul desires and how to elegantly manifest it.

Again, these are just SOME of the gorgeous life lessons that France gifted me. The beautiful thing is that much of what I learned has deepened even more since then.

For one, my connection and alignment with Source is something that has deepened to such a level that I consistently receive Divine Downloads for myself and the people I mentor.

I giggle every time I receive an email or comment during a session like this,

“Oh my God, are you psychic? It’s like you know me perfectly and we’ve only just met!

or

“Oh my God, are you psychic?  I asked to hear these exact words as a sign today!”

This post is the very last post of “The Making of a Spiritual Woman: A Pilgrimage That Began in Paris” series, but it’s just the beginning of what the Divine has guided me to share with you.

Please know that if you have found your way here, it’s not an accident.  It shows you are ready to receive all of the Elegant Processes and wisdom that I have been guided to share.

If you weren’t ready to receive it you wouldn’t have been guided here.  So congratulations for being ready!!!

It is my wish and intention, that today is the beginning of your OWN personal pilgrimage. One that takes you on a beautiful journey back HOME, to your Divine Nature – the place where Inner Peace, JOY, Abundance and Beauty resides.

Living from this space allows you to live in Elegant Flow where everything you desire (or something even better) flows elegantly to you, without hard work or huge effort.

So, let’s get this journey started, shall we?

Each week I will be sharing wisdom with you on how to be a Spiritual Woman who lives The Elegant Life, so make sure you put a note in your calendar to come back here every Wednesday.

Also, I LOVE connecting with you by reading and responding to your comments and questions, so please do write to me in the comments, okay?

Since I will only be posting once a week now, I invite you to follow me on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram for even more inspiration and wisdom.

See you next week!

Love,

Erin

The Making of a Spiritual Woman: Video #27 (The FINALE)

Well, this beautiful story could continue… in fact it could continue on for years since the connection between Guy, Emil and my current husband, Ilker, is very interconnected. This has been a full circle love story that I will hold close to my heart forever. It’s the story of how I became the Spiritual Woman I am today and how I truly live “The Elegant Life”.

Here is the short version of how things ended with all of the key players in this beautiful story…

I did see Emil one last time – in Prague. That story can be for another time because it wasn’t the kind of meeting I expected, in fact I felt heart broken at one point and then strong and resilient near the end.

The interesting part is that after I returned to Canada, an amazing thing happened to reconnect us and I spent months trying to find a way to get him over to Canada. However, in the midst of this, I met my husband. When I finally told Emil about my “boyfriend” we eventually stopped communicating. The last time I heard from Emil was on my wedding day.

I hadn’t heard from Emil for years but on the morning of my wedding day, which was in Turkey, just next door to Bulgaria where he lived, I opened my email to find, you guessed it, an email from Emil saying he missed me. Yeah, I know….

Talk about a year!

1997, a year that began with drama and things I never thought would happen to me in my life…to experiencing things that were amazing, AMAZING!

In one year I went from stressed, insecure and scattered to spiritually aligned, peaceful and confident in who I was as a woman.

During the remaining months in France my relationship with Guy as well as my spiritual evolution flourished.

I left France with a daily practise that I did every morning without fail…and still do to this day.

When my sister came to visit me in France, just before I left, she was in awe at the reaction I was receiving from people on the street.

“Did you SEE that?” she’d say. “Look how people are reacting to you!”

I was oblivious to it – I just thought their stares and double takes were perhaps because they thought I was someone famous.

But no, there was something different about me.

I felt inner peace.

I felt connected to my “Divine Nature”

I felt beautiful.

I intimately knew and LOVED who Erin was. I loved what her style was and I knew what she required and what she desired…. I just loved her.

WATCH the video above, at minute 5:44-6:30, for a little giggle:)

Guy is, to this day, the greatest gift of my life. He GAVE me the life I have now, as it’s because of everything he showed me, did for me and taught me that I am the woman I am and that I have the life I have now.

This is why he and I were meant to come together that year.  I served the evolution of his soul and he served the evolution of mine. No, it wasn’t meant to be  a long term relationship, but it was truly a year we will both always remember and be thankful for.

I’ve not seen him since 1998, but we spoke regularly for years.

A period went by when our communication totally stopped.

He got married, I got married. We both had children, etc. but a couple of years ago Sandra, he and I almost reunited in Paris. (Sandra and I did and that story is one I MUST tell you since it miraculously occurred after I used my Elegant Clearing Process™).

Sadly, Guy is divorced now, but he is still teaching yoga and is highly respected in what he does.

If you go back to post #1 of this series, “The Making of a Spiritual Woman: A Pilgrimage That Began in Paris”, you will see that it began with Guy and I sitting on a park bench and me staring up into the sky saying with such sadness and hopelessness, “I just want to be happy, Guy. I just want to be happy.”

Well, here’s where I will end this series…

Picture it being July 26, 2003 and I’m on a boat, with 150 plus guests sailing down the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Turkey.

I’m wearing a simple, elegant wedding dress that is so ME, and I’m with my father. We are dancing to the Father/Daughter song and all I keep repeating is, “Dad, I’m so happy right now. I’m SO happy.”

I felt peace in my heart and full JOY and contentment with my life, who I was marrying and who I was as a woman.

The Finale of The Making of an Elegant Woman

The Finale of The Making of an Elegant Woman The Finale of The Making of an Elegant Woman

I want to say a massive thank you to my husband; my dark-haired, spiritual, generous, guitar playing, great cook, music loving, great lover of a husband for loving me unconditionally and gifting me two incredibly beautiful souls…our children.

HERE is a post I wrote culminating all the BIG LIFE lessons I learned in France and what that means for YOU.

I always felt I needed to share this story, but I never wanted to share it just for ME. There was a purpose and the Divine told me I needed to share it.

The beautiful responses I’ve been receiving privately just solidifies WHY I needed to share it.

The post HERE shares how we’ll be moving forward at The Elegant Life.

I really cannot wait! It’s been 20 years since I began my pilgrimage back HOME to the truth of who I am, both as a soul and as a woman, and I finally feel ready to BE the woman I was meant to BE; to share these exquisite Elegant Processes & Principles it took me years to learn and embody.

Now it’s your turn to begin your OWN beautiful pilgrimage, but the good news is that your pilgrimage will be supported by exquisite Elegant Processes!

It’s going to be a beautiful journey:)
